How Stairs, Elevators, and Long Carries Affect a Move
Access changes the work even when the furniture list stays the same.
In the current planning policy, access above 15 steps without an elevator can trigger a stair fee and a time multiplier. A medium or long truck walk adds time rather than a hidden percentage surcharge.
Planning information only. Confirm route, inventory, access, written moving documents, and applicable rules before booking.Pickup and destination access are entered separately
Elevator access removes the configured stair multiplier and fee
Long walks are expressed as added minutes
Access choices in the estimator
| Choice | Planning interpretation |
|---|---|
| Ground floor | No stair adjustment |
| Elevator | Building elevator available |
| 1 flight | Up to 15 steps |
| 2 flights | 16–30 steps; configured loading/unloading multiplier |
| 3+ flights | 31+ steps; higher configured multiplier |
Why the truck walk matters
A loading dock beside an elevator is different from street parking followed by a 150-foot hallway. The estimator asks for the longest practical walk at either address and adds a disclosed time allowance.
Confirm building rules before move day
- Reserve the elevator and loading dock
- Confirm allowed moving hours
- Arrange a Certificate of Insurance when required
- Share gate codes and parking restrictions
Frequently asked questions
Does one flight automatically add the configured stair fee?
No. The current threshold is more than 15 steps, and the fee also depends on elevator availability under the configured policy.
What if I do not know the walking distance?
Choose Not sure. The estimate will disclose that access is still unconfirmed rather than invent a precise value.
